Celebrate 100 Years of Ventura

The City of Ventura is celebrating its 100th birthday this year with lots of special events throughout the summer.The City of Ventura turns 100 years young this year.  And isn’t she beautiful?  Ventura City Hall plans on an all-out celebration, including several fun activities planned through the summer.  The City wants to invite all residents and visitors to come celebrate 100 years of Ventura by partaking in any or all of the following scheduled events:

Search the MLS for Ventura County homes for saleMay and June – The City of Ventura is putting together a time capsule that will be opened up by future members of the Ventura community at its 200th birthday in 2113.  They need your help to fill the capsule.  The City is asking residents to send memorabilia that reflect what everyday life is like here in 2013.  Also, they are searching for 1913-era items to temporarily use in display cases for the centennial celebration.  If you have either, please email the City at  You could become a part of history!

July 4th Street Fair – On Thursday, July 4th, from 10am to 5pm, Ventura’s Main Street (between Fir and Ventura Ave) will be filled with live music, craft vendors and tons of food.  The City Hall will also be open for tours.

July 18 Dinner at the City – The historic San Buenaventura City Hall will be the beautiful backdrop for an elegant feast held on the front lawn at 5pm.  Tickets are $135 per person and can be purchased at Totally Local VC’s website here Proceeds will benefit the Future Farmers of America.

July 25 Ventura City Hall Open House and Tours – From 11am to 4pm, Ventura City Hall will be open for special tours of the facility as well as the exhibits set up around City Hall commemorating the last 100 years of the City’s history.  A special Historic Preservation Workshop will take place at 2pm, with an unveiling of the new City Hall Centennial Sculpture at 4pm.  The time capsule will also officially be sealed at 4pm, with birthday cake and other refreshments to follow immediately afterwards.

Come celebrate 100 years of Ventura.  One day is not enough time to do it up right.  See how far Ventura has come one century.

Ventura County Strawberry Festival 2013

The 30th Annual California Strawberry Festival takes place in Oxnard this weekend, May 18th & 19th.It’s that time of year, folks…strawberry time!  The 2013 Ventura County Strawberry Festival comes to Oxnard this weekend, May 18th and 19th.  For two days only, Southern Californians will be celebrating the succulent nectar of life that is the strawberry.

Search the MLS for Ventura County homes for saleFrom 10am to 6:30pm this Saturday and Sunday, Strawberry Meadows of College Park (located at 3250 South Rose Ave. in Oxnard) will be filled with the sights and smells of strawberries.  Nosh on traditional strawberry dishes like strawberry pie, strawberry jam and chocolate covered strawberries.  But, save room for the strawberry pizza and strawberry nachos!  If you feel like you need a break from the juicy goodness, there will more than 50 food vendors of all kinds on the premises for the weekend.

Stop in for one of the cooking demonstrations by local Ventura County chefs.  Feel like a kid again on the carnival rides.  You’re sure to find something you absolutely “must have” at one of the 250+ arts and crafts booths.  There’s even some sweet strawberry beer!  Dance off the calories at the Berry Best Dance Contest.  Dress up your favorite hat for the Berry Best Hat Contest.  Even the wee ones can get in on the action with the Berry Best Dressed Baby Contest.  This year, there is a Berry Zipline and Navy Seals Underwater Dive Tank that you don’t want to miss!

General admission is just $12 per day.  Seniors (ages 62+) and active military members and their dependents (with valid ID) can get in for just $8 each.  Kids ages 5-12 are just $5 and all kids ages 4 and under can get in free.  Click here to purchase your tickets online.  The military discount is only valid at the gate.

Ventura Family Festival in the Park 2013

The 10th Annual Ventura Family Festival in the Park & Kids Swap Meet takes place at Ventura's Barranca Vista Park on Sat, May 11, 2013. Sunny weather makes you want to head outside, especially here in Southern California.  The kids are probably getting antsy waiting for school to end and summer break to begin.  Take them to the 10th Annual Ventura Family Festival in the Park on Saturday, May 11, 2013.

Search the MLS for Ventura County homes for saleBarranca Vista Park in Ventura is going to be full to the brim with tons of family-friendly fun.  From 9am to 1pm is the Kids Swap Meet, where kids bring their old toys, books, video games, etc. to sell to other kids.  From 12pm to 4pm is the official Ventura Family Festival in the Park, with local organizations introducing themselves to the community by showing off their entertainment skills.  Some of these include performances from the Ventura USD and Ojai Raptor Center as well as other musical, dance and theatrical performances by local artists of all ages.  There will also be informational booths set up around the park, hands-on activities and face painting available.  Of course, food vendors will be on hand to tempt your taste buds.
