Ventura Shop Small Saturday 2013

Instead of shopping at large malls or chain stores, spend your cash on gifts for your loved ones at local businesses on Ventura Shop Small Saturday November 30, 2013.I hope everyone enjoys their time spent with loved ones in Ventura this year.  Since Thanksgiving has come late this year, there will only be 26 shopping days left until Christmas.  That means it, too, will be here before you know it.  If you haven’t purchased every gift on your Christmas “to do” list this year, can we make a suggestion?  Instead of going to large malls or chain stores, try Ventura Shop Small Saturday 2013 this Saturday, November 30th.

What is Shop Small Saturday?

Search the MLS for Ventura County homes for saleA great example of Ventura Shop Small Saturday 2013 is the local farmers markets.  Not only are they a great place for the freshest produce, meat, cheese and baked goods, but they also offer unique, one-of-a-kind articles that would make fantastic gifts for the holidays.  You don’t have to limit yourself to the farmers markets, however.  How about a nice boutique shop in Ventura Harbor Village?  Or, pick up your favorite pastries from that little mom and pop store around the corner.  A book about local culture, tickets to a favorite play or a nice handmade purse also make for some pretty wonderful gifts.

The whole idea behind Ventura Shop Small Saturday 2013 is to spend your money at Ventura businesses, shops, restaurants, etc.  This helps keep our local economy thriving.  You can almost see your carbon footprint dwindling.  And you’ll be able to start marking off items on your Christmas gift list in the process.  Sounds like a great way to spend a lazy Saturday to us!

Donations Needed for 2013 Ventura Thanksgiving Baskets

Food and monetary donations are requested to be dropped off at the Ventura City Hall by 12pm on Nov 22, 2013 to help fill up Thanksgiving baskets to be distributed to Ventura families in need next week.Thanksgiving is one of the only holidays throughout the year that seems to be dedicated totally to family and eating.  Unfortunately, hundreds of Ventura County families are struggling to feed their families right now.  They would be happy to sit down to any kind of meal, let alone a feast regular citizens are blessed enough to have.  You can help.  Ventura Teen Voice/PAL says that donations are needed for 2013 Ventura Thanksgiving baskets.

What: Donations for 2013 Ventura Thanksgiving Baskets
Where: Ventura City Hall Dept of Parks/Rec (501 Poli St, Rm 226)
When: By 12pm on Friday, November 22, 2013

Search the MLS for Ventura County homes for saleThe Ventura Teen Voice Leadership Program is working with the Ventura Police Activities League (PAL) to put together 150 baskets filled with turkeys and all the “fixings” to distribute to needy families in the Ventura area next week.  Cash and food donations are needed for the 2013 Ventura Thanksgiving baskets.  The cash will be used to purchase food to go into the baskets.  Thanks to the generous contribution of local Ventura business Gold Line Towing, each basket will contain one turkey.  However, they still need the following canned/pre-packaged food items to fill each basket up:

  • Stuffing
  • Dried mashed potatoes
  • Gravy
  • Vegetables
  • Cranberry sauce
  • Rolls or bread
  • Pies
  • Drinks: soda, juice, etc.

Again, monetary donations will be accepted.  Any money donated will go directly to purchasing food to fill the Thanksgiving baskets.  All donations will be accepted until noon tomorrow, November 22nd in order for volunteers to have enough time to gather materials for making the baskets on Monday and handing them out next Tuesday.  Donations are needed for 2013 Ventura Thanksgiving baskets.  Please donate what you can to help Ventura families in need enjoy a happy Thanksgiving this year.  Thank you!
