Ventura Earth Day Eco Fest 2016

Click here to search for Ventura County homes for saleOfficially, Earth Day is tomorrow, April 22nd.  However, Ventura Earth Day Eco Fest 2016 will celebrate all things “eco-friendly” this Saturday in Promenade Park.  And you’re invited.

This popular Ventura County event brings in more than 5000 visitors every year.  Over 90 eco-centric exhibits will be on display along the beachfront.  Visit the green auto expo to see what is new in electric and hybrid vehicles.  They have come a long way, baby!  Some of the highlights of the day include a kid’s scavenger hunt, lots of raffles, a silent auction, live music on two separate stages and plenty of family-friendly activities that allow you to have fun while you learn.

Six different food vendors will be on-site at the Ventura Earth Day Eco Fest 2016 to satiate your hunger.  Stop by one of the health food vendors.  You might be surprised how tasty healthy can be.

Parking for Ventura Earth Day Eco Fest 2016 is available for just $5 at the Ventura County Fairgrounds.  However, it is going to be a beautiful day.  If you can, bicycle with your family to the beach.  A free bike valet will be on-site to take care of parking your bicycle safely.  You can also use public transportation like the bus (view bus schedules here) or train (visit the Amtrak website for more info).  Both of these have stops located within two blocks of the event.

What do you do on a regular basis to help reduce your carbon footprint?  We’d love to hear about it.  Please share your stories in the comments below.

Ventura Mom’s Day Run 2016

Click here to search for Ventura County homes for saleYou don’t have to run the 5K or 10K courses of the Ventura Mom’s Day Run 2016.  You can walk, hop, skip or even saunter to the finish line if you’d like.  The goal is just to finish and have fun doing it.  With the beach as a backdrop, why would you want to miss it?

The Ventura Mom’s Day Run started out as a small affair to honor the passing of the family matriarch, Marianne, back in 2011.  Marianne passed away due to complications from VHL in 2010.  VHL is a a blood cancer that forms tumors in the blood vessels of the brain, eyes and spinal cord.  It is a hereditary disease that can be passed down through the generations.  Proceeds from the Ventura Mom’s Day Run 2016 will benefit the VHL Alliance to help find a cure for this disease.

Each participant in the Ventura Mom’s Day Run 2016 will receive a free breakfast burrito from none other than Tacos Los Koras.  As if that wasn’t enough, Rolling Pin Donuts will be providing over-sized donut holes.  There will also be chocolate covered strawberries, Homemade Harvey fruit snacks, tasty cupcakes courtesy of Suite 106 Cupcakery (the winner of Food Network’s Cupcake Wars…twice!) and so much more.  Don’t fill up before the 5K/10K, though.  These will help refuel you at the finish line.

Honor your mother’s charitable nature by joining the Ventura Mom’s Day Run 2016 today.  If you register by tomorrow (April 8th), it will cost you $25 for the 5K and $30 for the 10K.  If you don’t make it by tomorrow evening, you pay just $5 more until May 6th.  Are you a procrastinator?  You can still register on race day but it will cost you $35 for the 5K and $40 for the 10K.  Register online at the Ventura Mom’s Day Run 2016 event website here.
