Ventura County Fair Starts on Wednesday

Ventura County Fair Starts on Wednesday

12 days of good old-fashioned fun! The Ventura County Fair starts on Wednesday, August 2nd. Consider this your traditional family-fun fair. All of the old fashioned rides you would expect to find will be here. Although, this year there is a great new addition: Michael Jackson’s Wave Swinger from his personal collection at Neverland Ranch. This is the ride where you sit in a swing and go in a circular motion. It is just really neat that it is from his personal collection.

You can expect to find:

  • Deep-fried everything!
  • An old-fashioned flea circus
  • An Olympic Bobsled coaster
  • Chalk Art
  • Daily Discounts Available
  • Concerts every night
  • A weekend Rodeo
  • And so much more!

What makes this fair so great is how it is offered to the community. There are budget-friendly opportunities for families to take part in. The WOW pass is only $36 and allows you entry for all 12 days. What a deal! You have until Tuesday, August 1st to purchase your WOW passes. There are other great offers like Dollar Day where there are designated times that entry prices are only a dollar. On Friday, there is a kid’s day where all children under 12 are free all day. Feel free to check out the following link to see what special deals are going on all 12 days.

Don’t miss the parade. The fair parade will be traveling around downtown Ventura at 10am on Saturday morning. KC and the Sunshine Band are performing Saturday night at 7:30pm and it is free. Other special events going on while the fair is in town include Military Appreciation Day, concerts are every night at 7:30, and there is even a rodeo on the weekend! The Ventura County Fair is a tradition here and if you haven’t been, this is the year to make it your family tradition!

When: August 2nd through the 13th

Where: Ventura County Fairgrounds, 10 West Harbor Blvd, Ventura

Channel Islands National Park- Ventura County

Channel Islands National Park- Ventura County

Along the Santa Barbara Channel you can find Channel Islands National Park and Marine Sanctuary which is made up of five Channel Islands. These Channels are so very important to our area. They serve as our ocean environment and as a great resource to our community. Therefore, if you have not been to any of the park’s Channel Islands yet, make time this summer to come explore. Near Ventura, and close to Los Angeles, it is refreshing to visit and break away from the busy California city lifestyle.

The Channel Islands are San Miguel, Santa Rosa, Santa Cruz, Anacapa, and Santa Barbara. Between all of them, they are as an oceanic home to several hundred unique to the area species and over 2,000 plant and animal species, overall. However, one of the coolest ones is the Santa Barbara Channel because it happens to be home to over 30 marine mammals like whales, dolphins, and elephant seals!

Which Island to See First?

Each island is unique and has different qualities to offer. If you are looking for amazing views and rock formations that usually have cute sea lions propped on them, go to Anacapa. Anacapa is additionally well known for bird watching and wildflowers. If you are looking to kayak, snorkel, hike, or even camp, Santa Cruz is the most popular. Santa Rosa is known to be a private area with beautiful white beaches. It is also great for hiking and camping! Santa Barbara and San Miguel Islands however, are mostly used for rehabilitation and conversvation. Therefore, they are closed to the public at times.

Really anytime in summer is good to visit any of the islands. The blue and the humpback whales are out and moving for great whale watching opportunities. Check out the Channel Islands website here for additional information and openings. Just 14 miles from Ventura, and miles of fun for hiking, kayaking, camping, and general wildlife viewing.
