First Fridays Ventura Celebrate the Arts
You can guess when First Fridays Ventura takes place simply by looking at the name. Since 2009, the Office of Cultural Affairs partnered up with the local art community to create a gallery crawl showcasing locals artists in their element. With school arts programs often being the first curriculum dropped due to budget cuts, things like First Fridays Ventura become even more important. The arts play a huge part in developing a fully formed human being, both mind and body.
During First Fridays Ventura, places like the Bell Arts Factory and the Museum of Ventura County allow local artists to showcase their talents. Attend live demonstrations. Listen to lectures about various art forms and/or influential artists both present day and historical. Watch musicians and dancers perform live before your very eyes.
The next First Fridays Ventura event takes place on May 4th. The Topa Time Travelers perform live from 6 pm to 9 pm at Stoneworks Studios. While you’re there, peruse the entries in Stoneworks’ “Heads Up” contest. Artists submitted self-portraits as well as selfies in a special contest hosted by Stoneworks. You can help determine the grand prize “People’s Choice” winner. So, make sure you vote before you leave. Oh, and grab a free s’more or piece of cheesecake by the fire pit before you leave.
First Fridays Ventura provide a fantastic opportunity to inspire a life-long love of the arts in your children. You also support local artists with their passions. Encouraging more beauty through creative expression is never a bad thing.
