Downtown Ventura’s Walk It Wednesdays

Search Ventura County homes for salePerform a little mid-week pick-me-up with Walk It Wednesdays. Every Wednesday night, visit any of the ten participating Downtown Ventura restaurants for a delicious meal with your friends or significant other. Compare the fare offered by at least two of these restaurants over the course of two weeks. (Unless you enjoy two dinners in one evening. No judgment here.) The only judgment needed is your opinion about each appetizer and drink you partake in per visit. Yes, Walk It Wednesdays actually is a fun game of “who offers the best apps and drinks”. Every other week, one judge receives $50.

How to Participate

First, choose at least two venues over the course of two weeks. Or stop by a couple each week for just appetizers and drinks. (Or maybe dinner at Cafe Fiore and drinks/apps at The Saloon. Just a little food for thought.) Each location offers a selection of $6 drink specials and $6 to $8 appetizers. Keep drinks and appetizers in the same family for judging (rum-based drink vs rum-based drink and cheesy appetizer vs cheesy appetizer). This keeps the judging fair. Feel free to stop in at any of the boutiques along Main St during Walk It Wednesdays, too.

Before you partake in the evening’s choices, take a photo. When you decide which ones are your favorites, upload the photos to your Instagram feed using the hashtags #WalkItWednesday and #MyDowntownVentura. Don’t have an Instagram account? Visit the Downtown Ventura website here to cast your vote.

Whale Watching

Search Ventura County homes for saleWintertime is a great time to go whale watching in Southern California. Right now, you might see gray whales as they journey back north from Mexico. Island Packers Cruises offers whale watching cruises every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday through mid-April in the Ventura Harbor area. Choose from the early 9:30 am cruise or afternoon 1:30 pm cruise. Each cruise takes between three and three and a half hours to complete.

Evening Harbor Cruise

Island Packers also offers a special one-hour Valentine’s Day evening harbor cruise. They depart at 6 pm. Guests enjoy tasty appetizers while sipping a complimentary beverage as they cruise around the harbor. Tickets cost $27 per person. Seniors receive a $3 discount per ticket. Visit the Island Packers website to reserve your spot today. They fill up quickly.

Love Local Art Walk

Does your sweetheart like art? Visit three Ventura Harbor art galleries on Valentine’s Day: Ventura County Potter’s Guild Gallery, The Mermaid Gallery, and Harbor Village Gallery & Gifts. Enjoy special sweets while looking at the art exhibits in each gallery. Local artists provide live demonstrations at the Potter’s Guild from 1 pm to 4 pm on Valentine’s Day. Watch a live art demo at The Mermaid Gallery from 1 pm to 4 pm as well. Pick up a unique piece of “heart art” at the Village gallery, too. Money raised from sales helps support local artists.

Dining With Your Love

Make a reservation at one of the Harbor’s restaurants. Enjoy a heart-shaped pizza at Fratelli’s Pizza and Brew. The Greek Mediterranean Steak and Seafood offers a special Valentine’s dinner between 4 pm and 10 pm. Take a photo in the photo booth on-site to capture the memory forever. Reservations required (805-650-5350). Starting at 5 pm, Le Petit Cafe offers a wonderfully romantic dinner for two on Valentine’s Day. Reservations are required here as well (805-642-1191).

If you decide you want to take your paramour out for dinner on Valentine’s Day, make sure you make your reservation soon. Fridays tend to be pretty busy anyway. But Valentine’s Day makes it that much busier. Happy Valentine’s Day to all.
