2018 Ventura St Patrick’s Day Parade: Shamrocks & Good Luck

Where has this year gone? New Year’s Day. President’s Day. Valentine’s Day. They’ve all come and gone already. The next holiday on the docket? St Patrick’s Day. And this year, it takes place on a Saturday. So, you know there’ll be some celebrating taking place around Ventura County. For a more family-friendly celebration, however, come to the 2018 Ventura St Patrick’s Day Parade in downtown Ventura.

Begin this year's celebration with the family at the 2018 Ventura St Patrick's Day Parade. First responders to the Thomas Fire act as Grand Marshalls this year. Come out to show your appreciation and thank them for all they sacrifice every day for our safety.

What: 2018 Ventura St Patrick’s Day Parade
Where: Main St, Downtown Ventura
When: Saturday, March 17th, 10 am to 12 pm
Admission: FREE
Contact: Ventura County Fairgrounds (805) 648-3376

2018 Ventura St Patrick’s Day Parade: Shamrocks & Good Luck

The 2018 Ventura St Patrick’s Day Parade starts off right outside the San Buenaventura Mission. All entries in the parade march straight up Main St to North Ann St. Spectators are encouraged to come early so they can find a great vantage point along the parade route. Make sure to bring your lawn chairs so you can watch in comfort. This year’s theme is “Ventura Strong”. As such, organizers thought this would be the perfect opportunity for all Ventura area residents to thank the first responders to the Thomas Fire that devastated so much of our region last December. Instead of just one Grand Marshall heading the parade this year, several of the Thomas Fire first responders act as Grand Marshalls. So, make sure you clap extra hard as they pass by during the parade. Let’s show them lots of love and gratitude for all they do for us on a daily basis.

St Patrick’s Day Fun Facts

The first official St Patrick’s Day parade took place in 1766 in New York City. However, Irish immigrants began celebrating the day in Boston as far back as 1737. Make sure you wear green on St Patrick’s Day or you might receive a pinch (an Irish tradition). Official St Patrick’s Day meal? Corned beef and cabbage, of course. Ireland considers the number “3” to be magical. Thus, the three-leafed shamrock is supposed to bring good luck.

Ventura Botanical Gardens Sow in the New Year

Search homes for sale in Ventura CountyThe Ventura Botanical Gardens Sow in the New Year event is meant to be a great way for families to get outdoors and learn more about nature.  Guests will be scattering wildflower seeds along the hillsides.  Be patient.  You will see the fruits of your labor this spring, when the hillsides explode in a plethora of color.  While you’re out soaking in the brisk sea air, you will learn more about plants that are native to our Southern California climate.  Other topics to be discussed include water conservation (a very hot topic in our drought-ridden state right now), how to control erosion of the soil and sustainability.  Any questions you have about the Ventura Botanical Gardens will be answered as well.

It’s been quite a soggy few days here in Southern California.  Looks like we’re going to get a bit of a break from it tomorrow.  But there is a chance of showers in the morning on Saturday.  Make sure you dress warmly but comfortably.  Leave the flip-flops at home.  Closed-toe shoes will be a much better choice.  Bring gardening gloves to protect your hands and a water bottle to stay hydrated.  Yes, even in cold, wet weather, you must always stay hydrated.

Have you ever visited the Ventura Botanical Gardens?  When?  What did you think of the grounds?  Please share your stories in the comments below.
