Ventura Art and Street Festival 2021

Artists of all sorts thrive in our Ventura community. Steel Drum Saturdays and Live Music Sundays highlight the talents of local musicians. All March long, we celebrate Mermaid Month with artistic offerings in various mediums. Artistic craftsmen even showcase their wares at events like SummerFest 2021. Another fun way to support our local artisans is by coming to the Ventura Art and Street Festival 2021 on September 11th and 12th.

Help support local artisans as they showcase their craft at the Ventura Art and Street Festival 2021 in Ventura Harbor Village.

What: Ventura Art and Street Festival 2021
Where: Ventura Harbor
When: September 11th & 12th, 10 am to 5 pm

All mediums of artwork can be found at the art and street festival in Ventura Harbor. Watch street artists create masterpieces before your very eyes. And all of the artwork you see at the festival will be available for purchase from the artist directly.

Encourage the artist in your child. Let them express themselves in the Children’s Chalk Area. Spend $10 and your child receives their own box of colored chalk and a designated square on the sidewalk to sketch out whatever inspires them. The Boys and Girls Club of Ventura oversees the children’s area.

Fundraiser

In addition to supporting local artists, the festival acts as a fundraiser for local charities. This year, funds go to FOOD Share of Ventura County, a member of Feeding America. Over the years, they distributed more than 26 million pounds of food to Ventura County residents in need. For a mere $10 donation, 30 people (men, women, and children) receive a warm meal. If you would like to donate your time or money, please visit the FOOD Share website today. Thank you!

Ventura SummerFest 2021

Firework shows on the 4th of July. Tequila and Tacos the weekend before last. We seem to have enjoyed a bit of a return to normal here in California lately. Unfortunately, the Delta variant of COVID-19 put mask mandates back in place for everyone when indoors. Sadly, officials canceled the annual Ventura County Fair this year. But, visitors may satisfy their “fair tooth” with the Ventura SummerFest 2021 Carnival instead.

Unfortunately, organizers canceled this year's Ventura County Fair. However, you can enjoy some of the fair's perks (like carnival rides and fun fair food) at Ventura SummerFest 2021 from Aug 4th to 15th.

What: Ventura SummerFest 2021
Where: Ventura Fairgrounds (10 W Harbor Blvd)
When: Aug 4th to Aug 15th, 3 pm to 10 pm Mon through Fri, 12 pm to 10 pm Sat & Sun
Admission: Free (tickets required for carnival rides)

Ventura SummerFest 2021

Search Ventura County homes for saleIf we cannot enjoy the Ventura County Fair this year, at least we get the next best thing…SummerFest! Sure, the size of the fair we are used to will not be happening. No cattle auction or exhibits this year. And the big baking and crafts competitions will not take place either. But the heart of the fair lives on. Guests get to enjoy carnival rides and games as well as the amazing fair food usually reserved for things like the county fair. And that’s what most of us go to the fair for anyway, right?

Ticket Info

Parking runs $15 per vehicle. But it costs you nothing to enter into SummerFest. If you wish to ride the carnival rides, you must pay for tickets. The amount of tickets required varies from ride to ride (anywhere from three to eight each). Tickets cost $1 each. Or you may purchase them in bulk at $20 for 24. But if you go to Kastl Amusements’ online box office before midnight on August 3rd, you may purchase them at a huge discount of 40 ride tickets for just $25. You receive a 37.5% discount off the regular price of a ticket this way. That means more money for fair food! Yay!

Ventura Concerts in Your Car – April 2021

This global pandemic forced companies to make some changes in order to stay in business. For restaurants, it meant upping their “take out” game and moving some tables outside. For shops, it meant limiting the number of patrons allowed inside and requiring masks. Entertainment venues felt a huge hit, with most of them forced to shut their doors indefinitely. Live music all but disappeared. Well, we are very happy to announce that CBF Productions found a way to bring back live music again. They created Ventura Concerts in Your Car.

Live music comes back to Ventura County every Saturday in April 2021 with Ventura Concerts in Your Car at the Ventura County Fairgrounds.

Ventura Mulch-Giving 2020 Offers Drive-Through Service

We hope everyone enjoyed a safe yet fun Halloween over the weekend. Thanksgiving marks the next big holiday on the books. (Just over three weeks to go.) As the weather turns a little more chilly in Southern California, it’s a good time to add mulch to your garden. Score a free bag of mulch at the Ventura Mulch-Giving 2020 event this month.

If you would like a free bag of mulch and/or compost for your garden, sign up for Ventura Mulch-Giving 2020's drive-through event.

What: Ventura Mulch-Giving 2020
Where: Ventura Maintenance Yard (336 Sanjon Rd)
When: Saturday, November 14th, by appt only
Contact: City of Ventura website

Ventura Mulch-Giving 2020

Why Add Mulch in the Fall?

Search Ventura County homes for saleMulch helps maintain moisture in the soil. It also acts as a weed suppressant and erosion protector. But when you add mulch to your garden in the fall, it insulates the soil, allowing microbes and earthworms a good source of food. You need both of these organisms to keep the soil rich and fertile during the colder winter months. Mulch also insulates the roots of your plants, helping them to maintain a steady temperature as it gets colder.

Ventura Mulch-Giving Info

With health and safety a high priority, this year’s mulch-giving event will be by appointment only. This limits the number of people congregating at the site at one time. Schedule an appointment online right now. But hurry. Available times are running out fast. To serve as many people as possible, each car may only receive one bag each of mulch and compost.

Arrive at your appointed time. Anyone who arrives before or after their scheduled appointment will be turned away. Stay in your vehicle while the staff checks you in. After they check you in, they will direct you to the pick-up point. Once you arrive there, then you may exit your vehicle to load your mulch and/or compost into your vehicle. You must wear a mask while on-site. Closed-toe shoes and work gloves are recommended as well.

California Coastal Cleanup 2020 in Ventura

For many Ventura County residents, the beach represents their happy place. Surfing, swimming, and sunbathing contribute to our way of life. California Coastal Cleanup 2020 challenges everyone to protect their “happy place” by signing up to clean the city’s streets, parks, and beaches.

Help keep your city clean by participating in California Coastal Cleanup 2020 in Ventura throughout Sept. This year, the event goes virtual.

California Coastal Cleanup 2020

Search Ventura County homes for saleLast year, more than 74,000 volunteers cleaned up their local areas all over the state in one day. This year, the California Coastal Cleanup looks a little different. For one thing, it takes place throughout the entire month of September. For another, the official dates fall on each Saturday of the month from 9 am to noon. However, organizers want to encourage as many people as possible to contribute to the cleanup. Therefore, they allow cleanup any day of the week and any time of the day that fits with your schedule.

How to Participate

First of all, visit the Coastal Cleanup website. Organizers strongly discourage large gatherings of people to lessen the chances of spreading COVID-19. If you feel ill, stay at home. Check the air quality before you head out. Wear masks and stay at least six feet away from anyone you do not live with.

You will need to provide your own clean up equipment, such as gloves and trash bags. Do not touch sharp objects such as syringes. Leave any object too large to fit in your trash bin. Wear closed-toed shoes for your protection. Avoid touching your face. Safety remains a top priority.

Where to Clean

Your only limitation to where you clean is where you see trash. Start on the streets outside of your house. Anything that falls into the ditches on the side of our roads ends up in the storm drains. Eventually, everything in the storm drains ends up in the ocean. Unfortunately, that harms all living creatures that live there, too. Clear any storm drains you see stopped up, providing it is safe to do so. Parks, school grounds, community centers, and beaches also make great places to spread out and pick up debris as well.

How to Track Your Progress

Download the Clean Swell app onto your smartphone. Then, record every single bit of trash you pick up. This helps keep the Ocean Conservancy’s database as up to date as possible.

Main Street Moves Ventura

Just today, Governor Newsom ordered a second shutdown of indoor businesses amid concerns over the spread of COVID-19. That includes indoor dining at restaurants. However, he still allows outdoor dining and shopping to continue. Why? This facilitates social distancing much easier than the confines of indoors. So, the local experiment known as Main Street Moves Ventura appears to continue through until its end date of July 16th.

Even though Governor Newsom again announced closures of indoor dining at local restaurants, Main Street Moves Ventura allows you to eat and shop outside over five blocks in the downtown area until July 16th, 2020.

What: Main Street Moves Ventura
Where: Downtown Ventura, Main St between Fir & Palm and California St between Santa Clara & Poli
When: 7 am to 10 pm every day between now and July 16th, 2020

Main Street Moves Ventura

Search Ventura County homes for saleOn June 16th, five blocks in the downtown Ventura area shut down their streets to vehicular traffic. This allowed businesses in the area to expand out onto the sidewalks and streets in an effort to accommodate customers while still allowing for social distancing requirements. These blocks allow for foot and bicycle traffic from 7 am to 10 pm daily.

In addition to shopping at your favorite stores outdoors, restaurants allow dining al fresco. Of course, takeout is still available at many places if you feel more comfortable doing that instead.

Health and Safety

Restaurants and shops must adhere to state, federal, and CDC guidelines during this time to remain open. That means that employees and guests must always wear a mask. The only exceptions to that rule are if you have a medical or mental condition that prevents you from wearing a mask. Also, hearing-impaired people or anyone who needs to communicate with a hearing-impaired person does not need to wear a mask. Basically, if a person must be able to see another person’s mouth in order to communicate, they do not need to wear a mask at that time.

Of course, when you eat or drink at a restaurant, you don’t need to wear a mask either. But that’s where a six foot distance from others becomes necessary. Outdoor activities such as swimming, running, hiking, bicycling, etc., do not require the use of masks. Again, maintain that six foot distance from others in your vicinity while engaged in outdoor activities.
