Ventura Harvest Festival 2018

This weekend, the Ventura Harvest Festival 2018 takes over the Ventura County Fairgrounds. Guests enjoy live music both on-stage and strolling around the grounds. Hundreds of local artists and artisans showcase their best handmade arts and crafts in three huge buildings. It’s never too early to start checking off items on your Christmas shopping list. You’ll find everything from jewelry to clothing, blown glass to ceramics, and so much more. Find a one-of-a-kind gift for that one-of-a-kind person in your life.

Learn how to make your own holiday ornaments or other knick-knacks with live demonstrations. Want to create the perfect holiday feast? Get ideas from vendors on-site courtesy of their cooking demos. You’re sure to be a hit at any party you throw or attend this holiday season.

And the festival hasn’t forgotten about the kids. Let them blow off steam in the Kids’ Zone. They’ll even have the opportunity to seek out some jack-o-lantern fodder in the pumpkin patch. Clean it out well and seal it with a watered down bleach solution and/or vaseline. That helps preserve it for much longer.

Tickets for the Ventura Harvest Festival 2018

Plan ahead and purchase tickets for any day of the Ventura Harvest Festival 2018 online. They’re also available at the gate. Tickets cost $9 per adult and $7 for seniors (ages 62+) and military members (ID required if not in uniform). Families pay just $4 for kids ages 13 to 17. Ventura Rock on the Dock 2018 Events All September Long

Typically, Labor Day weekend signifies the end of summer. With Ventura school children beginning their new academic year this week, it might seem that summer is already over. Luckily, Ventura Rock on the Dock 2018 makes it feel like summer all the way through September.

Ventura Rock on the Dock 2018 offers a different musical act performing on a floating dock in the middle of the harbor every Sat in Sept from 3pm to 6 pm.

What: Ventura Rock on the Dock 2018
Where: Ventura Harbor Village
When: Every Saturday in September 2018, 3 pm to 6 pm
Admission: FREE
Contact: Ventura Port District (805) 642-8538

Ventura Rock on the Dock 2018

Every Saturday in September, Ventura Harbor Village turns into an outdoor concert venue. Ventura Rock on the Dock 2018 hosts a different musical act every week. The band plays on its own floating stage located directly in the harbor. Seating operates on a first-come-first-served basis. No actual seats will be provided. You’re welcome to bring a blanket, towel, or beach chair with you. Or, for something a little closer and a bit unique, rent a paddleboat or slip your kayak into the water. Float on up to the dock and nab yourself a first-row seat directly in front of the band. Of course, if you happen to own a boat moored in the dock, sit out on deck and wait for the concert to come to you. No waiting. No hassle. And you never have to think about where you parked!

Enjoy some shopping. Then, grab a bite to eat. Several restaurants in the village offer waterfront seating, perfect for listening to the concert while dining al fresco. Our beautiful Southern California weather usually means sunny skies with cooler temperatures throughout September. Just make sure you apply sunscreen and wear a hat to help block those pesky UV rays.

Ventura Rock on the Dock 2018 Line-Up

  • The Bomb – Sept 1st (rock & funk)
  • Sean Wiggins & Lone Goat – Sept 8th (country rock & blues)
  • Crosscut Band 805 – Sept 15th (rock ‘n roll)

First Fridays Ventura Celebrate the Arts

You can guess when First Fridays Ventura takes place simply by looking at the name. Since 2009, the Office of Cultural Affairs partnered up with the local art community to create a gallery crawl showcasing locals artists in their element. With school arts programs often being the first curriculum dropped due to budget cuts, things like First Fridays Ventura become even more important. The arts play a huge part in developing a fully formed human being, both mind and body.

During First Fridays Ventura, places like the Bell Arts Factory and the Museum of Ventura County allow local artists to showcase their talents. Attend live demonstrations. Listen to lectures about various art forms and/or influential artists both present day and historical. Watch musicians and dancers perform live before your very eyes.

The next First Fridays Ventura event takes place on May 4th. The Topa Time Travelers perform live from 6 pm to 9 pm at Stoneworks Studios. While you’re there, peruse the entries in Stoneworks’ “Heads Up” contest. Artists submitted self-portraits as well as selfies in a special contest hosted by Stoneworks. You can help determine the grand prize “People’s Choice” winner. So, make sure you vote before you leave. Oh, and grab a free s’more or piece of cheesecake by the fire pit before you leave.

2018 Ventura St Patrick’s Day Parade: Shamrocks & Good Luck

Where has this year gone? New Year’s Day. President’s Day. Valentine’s Day. They’ve all come and gone already. The next holiday on the docket? St Patrick’s Day. And this year, it takes place on a Saturday. So, you know there’ll be some celebrating taking place around Ventura County. For a more family-friendly celebration, however, come to the 2018 Ventura St Patrick’s Day Parade in downtown Ventura.

Begin this year's celebration with the family at the 2018 Ventura St Patrick's Day Parade. First responders to the Thomas Fire act as Grand Marshalls this year. Come out to show your appreciation and thank them for all they sacrifice every day for our safety.

What: 2018 Ventura St Patrick’s Day Parade
Where: Main St, Downtown Ventura
When: Saturday, March 17th, 10 am to 12 pm
Admission: FREE
Contact: Ventura County Fairgrounds (805) 648-3376

2018 Ventura St Patrick’s Day Parade: Shamrocks & Good Luck

The 2018 Ventura St Patrick’s Day Parade starts off right outside the San Buenaventura Mission. All entries in the parade march straight up Main St to North Ann St. Spectators are encouraged to come early so they can find a great vantage point along the parade route. Make sure to bring your lawn chairs so you can watch in comfort. This year’s theme is “Ventura Strong”. As such, organizers thought this would be the perfect opportunity for all Ventura area residents to thank the first responders to the Thomas Fire that devastated so much of our region last December. Instead of just one Grand Marshall heading the parade this year, several of the Thomas Fire first responders act as Grand Marshalls. So, make sure you clap extra hard as they pass by during the parade. Let’s show them lots of love and gratitude for all they do for us on a daily basis.

St Patrick’s Day Fun Facts

The first official St Patrick’s Day parade took place in 1766 in New York City. However, Irish immigrants began celebrating the day in Boston as far back as 1737. Make sure you wear green on St Patrick’s Day or you might receive a pinch (an Irish tradition). Official St Patrick’s Day meal? Corned beef and cabbage, of course. Ireland considers the number “3” to be magical. Thus, the three-leafed shamrock is supposed to bring good luck.

2018 Ventura Public Art Project Wants You!

Over the past two decades, beekeepers the world over noticed a serious decline in the world’s bee population. Since 2006, the commercial bee population decreased 40% in the United States alone. In the UK, they’ve dwindled by 45% since 2010. Why should we care? Not only do they produce honey, but they help pollinate flowers and crops. Considering that roughly one-third of our food production depends on bees’ pollination efforts, this serious of a reduction in force severely hinders what eventually makes it to our dinner plates. You can help raise awareness by joining the 2018 Ventura Public Art Project “Bee Cause”. What is it and how can you help? Read on to find out.

The City invites the public to help create the 2018 Ventura Public Art Project called "Bee Cause" to help highlight honeybees, their importance in the ecosphere, and why they are disappearing at an alarming rate.

What: “Bee Cause” Public Art Project
Where: Museum of Ventura County (100 E Main St)
When: Saturday, March 3rd, 12 pm to 3 pm
Admission: $15
Contact: City of Ventura (805) 658-4759 or via email

2018 Ventura Public Art Project “Bee Cause”

Working in conjunction with the Museum of Ventura County and artist HB Hanrahan, the City of Ventura invites the public to join in on their “Bee Cause” 2018 Ventura Public Art Project. Participants will transform old hubcaps into colorful flowers using paints provided at this workshop. Eventually, these “flowers” will be permanently installed in the “Bee Cause” public garden at the Barranca Visitor’s Center. You must be at least 12 years old to participate.

Guests at the event learn how to put paint to hubcap through a series of workshops taking place this Saturday, March 3rd. The “Bee Cause” garden hopes to inform others about what’s happening to our nation’s honeybees as well as inspire people to help nurture bee population growth. To register, simply call the City of Ventura at (805) 658-4759 or send them an email at troach@cityofventura.ca.gov. Your $15 fee helps offset the costs of creating this public art project.
