Ventura Takeout Tuesdays 2020

COVID-19 continues to affect us all. For a little while, it looked like Californians would be able to enjoy a date night inside their favorite bars or restaurants again. Unfortunately, Governor Newsom put the kibosh on that in early July. He closed down any inside patronage of bars, restaurants, breweries, and tasting rooms throughout the state. While outdoor dining and to-go orders remain a possibility at many of Ventura’s restaurants, this severely cuts into the owners’ and employees’ income. To help your favorite local restaurants stay in business during this rough time, the local restaurants began to encourage Ventura Takeout Tuesdays.

To help support our local businesses, Ventura Harbor Village encourages you to participate in Ventura Takeout Tuesdays from your favorite restaurant. #CATakeoutTuesdays

Ventura Takeout Tuesdays 2020

Search Ventura County homes for saleYes, the governor allows outdoor dining at Ventura area restaurants. However, restaurants only allow a certain numbers of seats outside. During olden times (aka, “before COVID”), restaurants often served the least amount of customers on Mondays and Tuesdays. In that vein, local Ventura Harbor Village restaurants banded together to create Ventura Takeout Tuesday.

First, call in your order to your favorite restaurant. Most of the restaurants located in Ventura Harbor Village offer take-out options. These include the 805 Bar & Grilled Cheese, Brophy Bros, The Parlor, and Water’s Edge. At that time, they’ll give you a time to come pick it up. Once you receive your food, take it home with you. Don’t want to leave? Bring a blanket with you when you get your food and then take it to the Village Main Lawn or out on the beach for a delightful evening picnic.

To help spread the word about Ventura Takeout Tuesdays, take pictures, upload them to your social media, and tag them with #CATakeoutTuesday. Show people what they are missing when they don’t support local businesses. Also, make sure to tag the restaurant you picked up your food from so they receive a proper shoutout. Remember, some of the employees still depend on tips to make up their income. So, please, tip what you can, especially if they bring the food out to your car for you or if you put in a complicated or large order. Let’s do what we all can to help each other through this difficult time.

Downtown Ventura’s Walk It Wednesdays

Search Ventura County homes for salePerform a little mid-week pick-me-up with Walk It Wednesdays. Every Wednesday night, visit any of the ten participating Downtown Ventura restaurants for a delicious meal with your friends or significant other. Compare the fare offered by at least two of these restaurants over the course of two weeks. (Unless you enjoy two dinners in one evening. No judgment here.) The only judgment needed is your opinion about each appetizer and drink you partake in per visit. Yes, Walk It Wednesdays actually is a fun game of “who offers the best apps and drinks”. Every other week, one judge receives $50.

How to Participate

First, choose at least two venues over the course of two weeks. Or stop by a couple each week for just appetizers and drinks. (Or maybe dinner at Cafe Fiore and drinks/apps at The Saloon. Just a little food for thought.) Each location offers a selection of $6 drink specials and $6 to $8 appetizers. Keep drinks and appetizers in the same family for judging (rum-based drink vs rum-based drink and cheesy appetizer vs cheesy appetizer). This keeps the judging fair. Feel free to stop in at any of the boutiques along Main St during Walk It Wednesdays, too.

Before you partake in the evening’s choices, take a photo. When you decide which ones are your favorites, upload the photos to your Instagram feed using the hashtags #WalkItWednesday and #MyDowntownVentura. Don’t have an Instagram account? Visit the Downtown Ventura website here to cast your vote.

Ventura Restaurant Week

Dine out at a Ventura restaurant Nov 4-8, 2012 for Ventura Restaurant Week. $2 of each meal benefits Ventura County FOOD Share. It seems that America has an absolute love affair with food.  In Ventura County, we are lucky enough to be exposed to a wide variety of foods from all over the world.  Chances are, if you want it, there’s a restaurant nearby that serves it.  To that end, the 3rd Annual Ventura Restaurant Week comes to the City of Ventura November 4-8, 2012.

This year’s theme for Ventura Restaurant Week is “Farm to Table”.  Locally grown and produced food means less stress on the environment and more money into the local Ventura economy.  Throughout the week, Ventura area farmers will be visiting the different restaurants participating in Restaurant Week to meet with diners as well as discuss the benefits of shopping locally.  During Restaurant Week, patrons will have the opportunity to dine at some of the area’s finest restaurants for a discounted price: either $25 per person for a multi-course meal or $25 for two people.  This year, a lunch option has been included for the first time.  For just $15 per person, diners can enjoy an entree plus an appetizer or dessert at participating restaurants.

To kick things off, the Ventura Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a Taste 2012 party on the evening of November 1st.  Guests will get to sample some of the fine delicacies being offered by Ventura restaurants that will be participating in Restaurant Week.  There will also be live entertainment, demonstrations from local chefs and much, much more.  The cost to attend is $50 in advance or $60 at the door.  Chamber members can purchase their tickets at a discounted price of $35 per person.  To secure your tickets now, please call Charleen at (805) 643-7222.

Ventura Restaurant Week 2012 - November 4-8, 2012Ventura Restaurant Week is not only about promoting local food.  It’s also about helping those who struggle to put food on the table.  While you are enjoying your lunch or dinner, you can feel good in the knowledge that $2 of every meal served will benefit Ventura County FOOD Share, a non-profit organization that distributes more than 9 million pounds of food to individuals and families in need.

For a complete list of restaurants participating in the 2012 Ventura Restaurant Week, please visit their website.  If you enjoy good food and dining out, make it a point to visit a Ventura restaurant November 4th through 8th.  You’ll have a great time and get to help an amazing organization.  You may even get to meet the Ventura farmer who produced the food that is being served to you as well!
