Can you believe it? In just one week, we celebrate Christmas Day. Where has this year gone?! For many people, this means spending time with your loved ones. But not everyone is that fortunate. They have to fight to find a warm place to stay. Even in sunny Southern California, the winter nights become chilly. The Ventura Foul Weather Shelter helps those less fortunate individuals and families stay out of the cold. But they need your assistance to help these people with a warm place to stay.
Ventura Foul Weather Shelter Needs Your Help
The City of Ventura activates this emergency center when the temperature drops or the weather turns particularly nasty with excess rain and wind. Last year, it opened up over 25 times in just 45 days. Not only does the shelter provide a warm place to stay throughout those nights, but it also provides warm meals for literally thousands of people. There are three ways that you can help out: volunteer, donate money, or purchase something on the Amazon wish list.
Volunteer – The Ventura Foul Weather Shelter needs assistance with providing transportation, preparing meals, security, organizing clothing and donations, handing out warm packs, and providing security among other things. If you’d like to help out with any of these things, please fill out the volunteer form online here. Please volunteer only for what you feel comfortable with.
Donate Money – Money helps purchase the goods needed to keep the shelter running. If you cannot donate your time, consider donating money. Every bit helps. You can donate online or visit the River Community Church in person at 859 E Santa Clara St. The church accepts donations of food, clothing, blankets, coats, hats, mittens, gloves. toiletries, backpacks, and carrying bags.
Amazon Wish List – Finally, so many of us utilize Amazon to conveniently provide our own essentials on a regular basis. Peruse the shelter’s Amazon wish list to make sure they receive exactly what they need this year. Sleeping bags and jackets top the list. But they also need items like tarps, snacks, and rain ponchos. Even if you can only afford one item, that ensures that at least one person visiting the shelter can have at least one night safe from the elements.
