Thanksgiving is definitely one of our favorite holidays. We celebrate with friends and family alike. Plus we focus our attention on the blessings bestowed upon us from this past year. Unfortunately, thousands of local residents cannot enjoy this holiday in the same way. Please take a moment to give our neighbors experiencing food insecurity a helping hand this year. How? By donating to the Ventura County YMCA Thanksgiving food drive.

Ventura County YMCA Thanksgiving Food Drive 2024
The Ventura County chapters of the YMCA are currently accepting donations for their Thanksgiving food drive. Sixty families signed up for their Find My Genius program. To help them through the holidays, organizers of this food drive want to put together 60 Thanksgiving boxes. Each box contains one of each of the following:
- Cranberry Sauce (one 14-oz can)
- Green Beans (two 14 or 16-oz cans)
- Stuffing Mix (one 12 to 16-oz box)
- Chicken Stock (one 32-oz box)
- Turkey Gravy (three packets)
- Corn (two 14 or 16-oz cans)
- Instant Mashed Potatoes (one 14-oz box)
- Hot Chocolate (1 box of 6 to 10 packets)
- Mini Marshmallows (1 bag)
- Brownie Mix (1 box)
- Movie-Style Microwave Popcorn (1 box of 6 to 12 bags)
Additionally, each family receives a gift card to Ralphs to purchase their turkey. Each box costs between $35 and $50 to put together (which includes the gift card).
How Can You Help?
Organizers offer four distinct ways for you to contribute to making these families’ holiday a day to remember. First, donate the contents of an entire box (listed above). Purchase them from the grocery store and place them either in a grocery bag (preferably reusable) or a cardboard box. Second, Purchase a gift card at Ralph’s. Third, donate one or more items needed to create these boxes. Finally, if none of these sound feasible, consider donating any amount you can via check or credit card. Everything helps. Thank you.
