With Memorial Day firmly in our rearview mirror, we need to focus on the summer months ahead. Our Ventura County beaches usually fill up pretty quickly every day. And there is usually something happening each weekend here. For example, this weekend brings the Ventura Outrigger Challenge 2024 to our shores.
What: Ventura Outrigger Challenge 2024
Where: Harbor Cove Beach (872 E Front St #200, Ventura)
When: Saturday, June 8th, 7:15 am to 1:00 pm
Admission: FREE
Ventura Outrigger Challenge 2024
The Outrigger Challenge consists of six-man teams who race in these long canoes with stabilizing supports (known as “outriggers”) on the open ocean. Various age groups compete against each other, including novice, junior, women, and men. Novices and juniors run the short course while men and women compete in both the short and long courses. Come out to cheer your favorites on to victory. It costs nothing to cheer from the sidelines.
World Ocean Day Ventura
This challenge kicks off the bigger World Ocean Day Ventura event. World Ocean Day begins at noon with a welcome from Paso Pacifico and members of the National Park Service. At 12:30 pm, guests enjoy a screening of a special movie about our very own Channel Islands at the NPS Visitor Center. Then, learn about the World Surf Reserve in El Salvador via a live broadcast on location from El Salvador. Other films on the schedule include two films from Patagonia (“We Can Get There from Here” and “The Custodians and Voices for the Oceans”). Plus, a Marine Researcher with the National Park Services offers a special presentation about our oceans. Finally, World Ocean Day ends with a few closing remarks from 4 pm to 4:30 pm.
