What began as a simple way to bring awareness to our role in the health of our planet has grown into a nationwide campaign. Each year’s festivities get bigger and bigger. Ventura Earth Day Celebration 2024
The City of Ventura partnered with the Merito Foundation to host this year’s Earth Day event here in Ventura. The Multicultural Education for Resources Issues Threatening Oceans Foundation (aka “Merito”) consults with local governments, organizations, and businesses to educate them about sustainability and conservation of our oceans. The day’s festivities begin with a few words from the organizers as well as a Chumash blessing. Native to the Ventura County area, the Chumash people go back thousands of years. Their link to the land and the role we play in preserving it has been handed down for generations.
After that, enjoy live entertainment from mariachi music, ukeleles, jazz performed by local middle and high school bands, and a youth rock band. Also, compete in some eco-based trivia, enjoy a live performance by the Ballet Folklorico, and listen to guest speakers throughout the day. Additionally, visit one of the environmental booths to learn more about even small changes that make a huge impact on securing that our children’s children enjoy the seaside lifestyle for generations to come. Educational exhibits teach even the youngest kids learn how to live more eco-friendly while keeping them entertained at the same time.
