Here are a few fun facts about dachshunds that you may not have known. The German translation of “dachshund” is “badger dog”. So it should come as no surprise that they were originally bred to hunt badgers. They come in “standard” and “miniature” versions. The first Olympic mascot was a dachshund named “Waldi”. And the very first Ventura Short Dawgs in Da House dog race takes place at Ventura Harbor Village later this month.

Instagram sensation Rowdy the Skateboarding Dachshund hosts her very first dog racing competition featuring only short dogs: dachshunds, corgis, etc. It boasts the cutest lineup of competitors ever! .In addition to racing, the pups will be judged for their best trick as well as the best costumes. Guests may participate in a scavenger hunt around the village as well. Plus, over a dozen vendors featuring pet-friendly products set up booths around Ventura Harbor Village to cater to the dog lovers in the crowd.
Additionally, several restaurants and cafes at the harbor are dog-friendly. The shops and boutiques at the harbor also allow dogs inside. So, make it a day for the entire family.
Registering for the Race
Do you have a short dog in your house? Sign them up for the competition. Organizers offer two ways to do that: via email or at the Village on the day of the event. However, if you wait until the day of the event, organizers only accept competitors on a first come/first served basis. Spots could fill up before your pup has a turn to register. Therefore, it is highly recommended to register beforehand.
